Memories

Finally, we have made it to the year 2000! William Carey
College has a rich history that is well worth remembering.
This yearbook, Memories of the Millennium, was put

together with the hopes of recording some of the events
of our history. Memories are wonderful to have, and are
even better when they can be kept for a lifetime.

Carey College is distinct in the
emphasis given to the student's
development of a Christian philos-
ophy of life. At Carey, the student
is not only seeking an understand-
ing of his world but also an under-
standing of himself, and of his
God.

Yesterday is gone.
Tomorrow is in the lap of today.

President's yearbook address

Far better it is to dare mighty things to tvi)i glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than
to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the
gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Theodore Roosei'elt i)i a speech

before the Hamilton Club, Chicago, 1899

William  Carey,  the  pioneer  missionary,  "dared  mighty  things"  and  endured  disappointing  failures;
hoxoever, he persevered, and is credited for beginning the modern missionary movement. Our college
continues to dare and "to win glorious triumphs. " This year has seen the college reaffirmed l)y the
Southeryi Association of Colleges and Schools. You, cdso, have dared, taken risks, exhibited courage.
Along the loay, you have suffered setbacks and delays. You have overcome obstacles. But you did not
settle for the status quo. You are to be commended for your efforts, for your desire to "reach your high-
est potential." As you leave, my prayer is that you will always walk in sunlight, and that your
sojourns in twilight will be but brief learning experiences.
